LEMAIRE IN DOVER STREET MARKET GINZA

A new corner at DOVER STREET MARKET GINZA opened on the 3rd of August, extending a long-standing relationship with the Tokyo concept store – it is the second time LEMAIRE has occupied an ephemeral space in its premises after a pop-up in April 2020.

To ensure coherence and consistency, the space has been designed by the LEMAIRE team with the help of architecture firm DAIKEI MILLS and recycles the display structure used at SKWAT, the previous shop which was located in the Aoyama district.

The structure was dismantled at SKWAT at the end of July.

Care had to be taken to avoid damaging the framework of the installation.

The wood comes from the frames of century-old Japanese houses in Osaka.

The pillars and beams are assembled using the kigumi technique.

Kigumi is a craft that has been practiced for centuries in Japan.

THIS TRADITIONAL ASSEMBLY METHOD DOESN'T REQUIRE GLUE, SCREWS, OR NAILS.

Following on from the first pop-up at DOVER STREET MARKET GINZA, LEMAIRE is once again inviting OUT OF MUSEUM to enrich the setting with found objects and artworks. This store-atelier is dedicated to the unique and eclectic artefacts gathered all around the world by its founder, Makoto Kobayashi.
