Lemaire and CAN

Collaboration with the music band CAN

CAN and Lemaire are launching a new collaboration this season, ten years after a series of tee-shirts that paid tribute to the avant-garde rock brand.

Formed by Irmin Schmidt (keyboard), Holger Czukay (bass), Jaki Liebezeit (drums) and Michael Karoli (guitar) in Cologne in the late 1960s, CAN channeled the artistic, technological, political and social energy of an entire era to create a unique, enveloping sound that blends free jazz, rock, dub and ambient music.

The group broke with the conventions of composition and embarked on hypnotic, radical improvisations. In the process, they lent a more human touch to electronic machines and produced striking minimalist melodies that continue to resonate with audiences to this day.

A portal into the cinematic universe of Wim Wenders’ Alice in the Cities and its pared-down atmosphere, the men’s collection also draws from CAN’s soundtrack for the 1974 film to honor the revered group with a capsule containing three tee-shirts, a sweatshirt, a Jacquard sweater, patches and pins.

Lemaire drew from the archives provided by the band’s original label, Spoon Records, liberally interpreting the motifs : embroidered and scribbled logos, intricately detailed visuals, offbeat snapshots, and anti-establishment allegories.
